Café Stories
Travel 27 years into the recent past and see a character-driven play, a character study, and a satirical play, nesting for the ultimate caffeine buzz.

With coffee sponsored by San Francisco's own Ritual Coffee, "Café Stories" will preview September 7, 8, and 9 and then open on September 14th for a three week run. The performances will not begin with a sappy speech, the hostess or host twisting their hands in quest of money, nor with their sallying forth on some tired cliché about the special talents about to walk across the stage, already soiled. The patrons will be requested to shut off their cel phones upon entering. With any luck, "Café Stories" will transport an audience hungry for real-time interactions, back to a San Francisco that has all but disappeared.

"Café Stories" is presented at the Phoenix Theatre on Mason Street. Starring Irving Schulman ("The Cool" and "Chetty's Lullaby") and Caley Suliak, (Theatre of Yes, Calgary) "Café Stories" explores the culture of the coffeeshop which most people would admit, has been severely compromised with the advent of the smartphone.

With sound design by James Goode "The Fatales" (Lauren Gunderson); "LEAR!" (Theatre Rhinoceros) and with a cast featuring some of the best yet unknown players of the Bay Area, including Raul Delarosa, Richard Wenzel and Marvin Glass, and introducing Devon DeGroot as the marvelous barista Butter, the production is the directorial debut of Philip Watt, seen in the past few years as Chet Baker in productions at Viracocha, Amado's, and Stage Werx.

Produced by Mr. Schulman and the Unknown Players ("Genuine Show" Exit Theatre, "The Medicine Cabinet" SF Fringe, "Evil Hamlet", Stagewerx).
